A few days ago, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the 349th batch of "Road Motor vehicle production Enterprises and products announcement". According to statistics, a total of 42 new energy passenger cars were shortlisted. Among them, there are 21 lithium iron phosphate battery models and 19 ternary battery models, and 2 models are not marked with battery types.

It can be seen from the 349th public catalogue that BYD's power battery bases in Guiyang and Bengbu have begun mass production. After Xiaopeng Automobile, Yiwei Lithium Energy has added a new car-building customer, Hezhong New Energy, and Bick batteries have returned to the passenger car market.

It is worth noting that in the 349th batch of declared models, there are not many new cars, only a few models such as Honda eDrex NS1 and Sihao E60X, and others are mainly modified models. The modified model is mainly reflected in the switching of battery types, the change of battery suppliers and so on.

Lithium iron phosphate reverses the status of Yiwei Power / Honeycomb Energy.

In the 348th batch of announcements, the models supporting lithium iron phosphate and ternary batteries for new energy passenger vehicles are 27 and 28 respectively; in this batch, there are 21 lithium iron phosphate and 19 ternary batteries, except for 2 models that do not indicate the type of battery. the number of lithium iron phosphate matching models exceeds ternary batteries. From the publicity of recent batches, we can see that the acceptance and status of lithium iron phosphate in the passenger car market are increasing. In the declaration of new cars, the A0 and A-class models are still dominated by lithium iron phosphate batteries with better economy, while some medium-and high-end passenger cars are mainly based on ternary batteries.

In the 349th batch, passenger car lithium iron phosphate battery enterprises mainly include Ningde Times, Fudi Battery, Yiwei Power, Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Honeycomb Energy, Penghui Power supply (Penghui Energy).

Among them, Fudi battery Guiyang base and Bengbu base have begun to match BYD pure electric car-Yuan PLUS, which indicates that Guiyang base, which was started in 2019, and Bengbu base, which was invested in 2020, have been put into production.

It is reported that the battery material systems of Guiyang Fudi and Bengbu Fudi battery factories are based on blade lithium iron phosphate batteries.

In addition, the 349th catalogue shows that Yiwei Lithium Power, a subsidiary of Yiwei Lithium Energy, has begun to provide power batteries for Nezhong U, which is owned by Hezhong New Energy, and the battery type is lithium iron phosphate battery. This shows that Yiwei LiNeng has opened up a new force of car building after becoming the main supplier of Xiaopeng car. At the same time, Yiwei Lithium Energy is also making rapid progress in the research and development of lithium iron phosphate batteries for passenger cars.

In the first quarter of this year, Yiwei Lithium Energy invested a total of 4.9 billion yuan in the lithium iron phosphate battery project for passenger cars. In this regard, Yiwei LiNeng said that its investment mainly meets the supporting needs of customers such as international well-known car companies and domestic car-building new forces. Following the batch supply of Xiaopeng cars, entering the Hezhong new energy supply chain also confirms this point.

In batch 349, Honeycomb Energy is equipped with batteries for two declared models of zero-running cars, and the battery type is also lithium iron phosphate. This means that honeycomb energy lithium iron phosphate batteries have also been mass-produced. Prior to this, the person in charge of Honeycomb Energy revealed in an interview with the relevant media that its lithium iron phosphate battery has also been designated by international car companies.

Industry data show that in September this year, the installed capacity of power batteries in the Chinese market was about 15.7GWh. Among them, lithium iron phosphate battery installed 9.5GWh, up 309.3% over the same period last year; ternary battery installed 6.1GWh, up 45.6% from the same period last year. Lithium iron phosphate has installed more than ternary batteries for three months in a row. Industry analysts believe that, thanks to the economy of lithium iron phosphate, it will be one of the mainstream battery material systems for passenger cars.

It is worth noting that the Bick battery also appears in the battery catalogue of the 349th batch of models. Zhengzhou Bic is the Lecker 05+ battery of Chery Commercial vehicle (Anhui) Co., Ltd., and the battery type is ternary battery. The announcement shows that the model is a power-changing model.

International automobile and battery companies have also begun to pay attention to lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Lithium iron phosphate has been one of the main battery material routes promoted by automobile and battery enterprises in China because of its good safety, low cost and rich raw materials. It is worth noting that at present, international mainstream car companies have also indicated that they will use lithium iron phosphate batteries.

As the global leader in pure electric vehicles, Tesla (Shanghai) factory has used lithium iron phosphate batteries on a large scale in Model 3 and Model Y standard life models. Tesla CEO Musk said that in the future Tesla 2Accord 3 battery will choose lithium iron phosphate battery. In addition, Tesla will also use lithium iron phosphate batteries for his energy storage projects.

Volkswagen also said in March that lithium iron phosphate batteries would be widely used in entry-level models in the future.

Hyundai said it had begun developing electric cars with lithium iron phosphate batteries in the first half of this year and would launch them outside China.

In addition, Ford, Stellantis and others also intend to use lithium iron phosphate batteries in electric vehicles.

Under the background that the major customers have declared their positions and put them into action, several foreign battery giants have also clearly laid out the lithium iron phosphate battery route.

, SKI CEO said earlier this month that SK On, a subsidiary of SKI, is recently considering moving into the lithium iron phosphate battery business. "We are considering developing lithium iron phosphate batteries. Although its capacity density is low, it has advantages in terms of cost and thermal stability. " SKI CEO revealed that its main automotive customers are interested in lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Early last month, LG New Energy, the world's second-largest power battery company, also revealed that it would enter the field of lithium iron phosphate batteries. In early September, foreign media reported that LG new energy has begun to develop lithium iron phosphate battery, and the new product is expected to be trial-produced in 2022. In addition, LG Chemical, the parent company of LG New Energy, may set up a joint venture with Chinese partners to supply LG New Energy with raw materials for the production of lithium iron phosphate batteries.
