Since March last year, the output and installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate in China have increased continuously, and there has been news that new cars have been replaced with lithium iron phosphate. This trend continues into 2021. Wang Chuanfu, chairman of BYD, said: "since March last year, the proportion of models equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries in pure electric vehicles has increased more than fivefold from 6 per cent to 32 per cent; the installed capacity of lithium iron phosphate batteries has increased 13 times from 0.53GWh to 6.89GWH; and the proportion of new energy passenger vehicles equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries in the catalogue announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has also increased from 8 per cent to nearly half, a sixfold increase."

The ninth meeting of the Central Financial and Economic Committee held on March 15 clearly pointed out that China strives to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutralization by 2060, with the green and low-carbon development of energy as the key.

In the context of solving energy security and fulfilling national commitments, what else can we do? Wang Chuanfu gave BYD's answer at this press conference: using new energy technology to promote the reform of energy consumption structure and accelerate the electrification of cars.

Wang Chuanfu said that from 2005 to 2015, it took China 10 years to achieve market penetration of new energy vehicles ranging from 0 to 1%. Then, from 1% to 5%, it took three and a half years. In the second half of 2020, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles rose rapidly from 5% to nearly 9%, and to more than 10% in March this year. For the world's largest Chinese auto market, this is a development achievement that has attracted worldwide attention.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, as of March, the number of new energy vehicles in the country reached 5.51 million. Among them, the number of pure electric vehicles is 4.49 million, accounting for 81.53% of the total number of new energy vehicles. In the first quarter, 466000 new energy vehicles were newly registered, an increase of 348000 over the same period last year, an increase of 295.20 percent, and an increase of 216000, or 86.76 percent, compared with the first quarter of 2019. The new registrations of new energy vehicles account for 6.21% of the new registrations.

It is not difficult to find that the new energy vehicle industry is accelerating market penetration, making the transition from policy-led to market-led, forcing independent brands to develop from many dimensions such as innovation ability, product safety, cost control and so on.

As a domestic leader in new energy vehicles, since it officially entered the field of new energy vehicles in 2008, BYD's practice and exploration in the field of new energy technology innovation is obvious to all, and now it has a perfect supply chain layout of the new energy three power system. Especially in the battery field, BYD has 26 years of R & D experience and 100% independent R & D and design capabilities. Key components such as blade battery production lines and equipment are all independently developed and manufactured by BYD.

"We have always insisted that the R & D and manufacturing capabilities of core industrial equipment must be in our own hands." Wang Chuanfu stressed.

The latest annual report released by BYD also shows that the company's R & D investment in 2020 was 8.556 billion yuan, an increase of 1.6% over the same period last year, and the number of R & D personnel exceeded 350000, accounting for 15.95%. BYD invested 8.536 billion yuan and 8.421 billion yuan in R & D in 2018 and 2019 respectively, exceeding 8 billion yuan for three consecutive years.

In terms of price, among the four new cars released this time, the price of 2021 models of Tang EV after comprehensive subsidy is 279500 yuan to 314800 yuan, the price of Qin PLUSEV comprehensive subsidy is 129800 yuan to 166800 yuan, the price of Song PLUSEV comprehensive subsidy is 169800 yuan to 186800 yuan, and the price of 2021 e2 comprehensive subsidy is 99800 yuan to 115800 yuan. The price range of 100000 yuan to 320,000 yuan basically covers the car purchase budget of most consumers and conforms to the consumption trend.

The market trend superimposes the technical background, which has led to the achievement of BYD's popular style models. According to Wang Chuanfu, in the first year of the launch of BYD's high-end new energy model Han, which is equipped with a blade battery, sales exceeded 10,000 for four consecutive months except February, which was affected by the Spring Festival, breaking the pattern that it is difficult for independent new energy vehicle brands to break through the high-end situation.

According to Battery Network, BYD sold more than 150000 new energy passenger cars in 2020, with Han supporting more than 1/4 of sales. BYD predicts that the popular style effect of Han models will continue as battery capacity continues to increase in 2021. From the third quarter, Han's monthly sales are expected to remain at more than 10,000 vehicles.

The whole series of pure electric replacement blade battery accelerates the external supply of battery.

For BYD Han's hot sale, in Wang Chuanfu's view, it is because it solves the safety pain point that consumers are most concerned about. BYD Han has a new Chinese-style luxury design, but what many consumers value most is still the sense of security brought with Han's blade battery. Safety is the greatest luxury of an electric car. "

According to Wang Chuanfu, in March last year, BYD creatively launched an upgraded version of the lithium iron phosphate battery blade battery, which is characterized by safety and showed ultra-high stability in the industry's stringent acupuncture experiments.

Battery Network found that in terms of battery development with overseas customers, except that blade batteries have been shipped to Red Flag, BYD's other blade battery customers are in a state of secrecy, but good news continues to come out in the industry.

According to the research report of Soochow Securities, BYD battery has been successfully equipped with a pure electricity in Changan, two plug in in Jinkang, a plug in by BAIC and a variety of special vehicles.

According to South Korean media reports, BYD will supply blade batteries for Beijing Hyundai's new energy vehicle products from 2022. Recently, it has also been reported in the industry that BYD has also begun to lay out Europe, preparing to build the first overseas battery factory to speed up the support of overseas car companies.

Behind the continuous increase in sales and the acceleration of the landing of new products, BYD's capacity expansion of new energy vehicles and power batteries is also making efforts.

In terms of vehicle production capacity, BYD's shared capacity of new energy vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles currently has a cumulative vehicle production capacity of 800000 vehicles in Guangdong, Shaanxi and Hunan, and 400000 vehicles are planned in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.

In terms of battery capacity, BYD's monthly battery production capacity is expected to meet the needs of 80,000 new energy models by the end of this year. Among them, the Fudi Chongqing factory, the first mass production factory of "blade battery", currently has a production capacity of 20GWh.It will soon add 15GWh.The total production capacity will reach 35GWh.Changsha 20GWh Blade Battery Factory, Guiyang Factory 10GWh Blade Battery Factory will be gradually completed and put into production this year; at the beginning of this year, BYD also opened a 20Gwh blade battery production base in Bengbu, Anhui Province.

Battery net also noted that in addition to the replacement of blade batteries in the whole series of pure electric, on January 11 this year, DM-i Super Hybrid, a hybrid technology based on super electric hybrid system, was officially launched by BYD. The DM-i super hybrid models Qin PLUS DM-i, Song PLUS DM-i, and Tang DM-i, which launched last month, will all be equipped with special power blade batteries.

According to BYD's plan, the company will bring forth the new this year, accelerate the arrival of the era of parity between new energy vehicles and fuel vehicles through the technological innovation of blade battery and DM-i super hybrid, and promote the all-round electric development of the automobile business.
