Emirates Aluminium arrives at Port Khalifa with a Cape of good Hope bulk carrier

SMM, June 27: Emirates Aluminum (EGA) said in a statement on its website that EGA began using Cape of good Hope bulk carriers to import bauxite from Guinea to provide raw materials for its domestic Al Taweelah alumina plant. The Taweelah is the first Cape of good Hope bulk carrier fully loaded in the history of the Gulf region. Abu Dhabi Port Company is responsible for the loading and unloading work after arrival.

The, Al Taweelah alumina project, the largest industrial enterprise in the United Arab Emirates aluminum industry except the crude oil and natural gas industry, is an important layout for the aluminum giant to develop the upper reaches of the aluminum industry chain in the country. After the plant has reached full production capacity, the annual production capacity of the plant can reach 2 million tons, which can replace part of the import. At present, the electrolytic aluminum production in the United Arab Emirates depends entirely on imported alumina. After the project reaches production capacity, it can meet 40% of the alumina demand of EGA's electrolytic aluminum plant. 5 million tons of bauxite will be consumed each year, provided by the Guinean bauxite company (Compagnie des Bauxites de Guin é e).

According to SMM, the, Al Taweelah alumina plant is expected to produce about 800000 tons this year.
