[SMM Tin News Flash: Suspected Ebola Health Emergency Cases in DRC Exceeded 900, with 101 Confirmed]

On May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Social Welfare of the DRC officially declared the 17th round of Ebola outbreak in Ituri Province, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment. On May 26, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reported that suspected Ebola cases in the DRC had exceeded 900, including 101 confirmed cases (with 10 deaths), and that the outbreak was spreading faster than the response.

Rwanda: · On May 17, the border crossing between Goma, the capital of North Kivu Province, and the western Rwandan city of Gisenyi was urgently closed. Uganda: · Two imported confirmed cases were reported (including 1 death), both with travel history to the DRC. · Health measures included: strengthening border controls and adding health checkpoints; implementing strict contact tracing and isolation of close contacts; enhancing infection prevention and control capabilities in domestic medical facilities; and launching community outreach to raise public awareness of prevention.
