Japan's October Zinc Production Up 19% On Month - METI

SINGAPORE, Dec. 2 -- Japan's zinc production in October rose 19% from a month earlier to 51,687 metric tons, according to preliminary data released Monday by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

    Production was up 13% from October 2008.

    Shipments from Japanese zinc smelters rose 9% on month and 2% on year to 51,915 tons.

    Zinc inventories fell 1% on month but were up 37% on year at 22,130 tons in October.

    At 0255 GMT, three-month zinc on the London Metal Exchange was down $29 from Monday's kerb at $2,292/ton.
