[Minor metal] Silicon Metal Prices Report Little Changes

iconAug 26, 2009 00:00

SHANGHAI, Aug. 26 (SMM) -- Today, silicon metal prices remained stable, with limited transactions. Traded prices were RMB 9,500/mt for #553 silicon and RMB 10,200/mt for #2202 silicon.

A trader in Guangzhou said previous price hike was due mainly to purchases from traders but not actual market demand. Most smelters said they were firm with their offers given no inventories in their hand currently.

In addition, overseas downstream consumers purchased in advance, resulting in improving demand.

SMM believes silicon metal prices will experience no marked changes in the short term, and changes in overall demand and supply will determine price trend.
