Restrictive Electricity Supply in Wuhan Hampers Local Battery Production

SHANGHAI, Jan. 5 (SMM) -- Electricity supply shortages in Wuhan, Hubei province has worsened since mid-December.  Since December 28th, nearly 2,000 factories in Wuhan have halted production on a rotation basis, in order to conserve electricity for civilian uses. 

The Regulation and Control Team of Wuhan Power Grid Emergency Load said electricity shortages get worse, since the supply of coal need for electric power generation has not improved.  As a result, the Wuhan Municipal Government required industrial enterprises to reduce consumption of electricity by suspending production for the first time in a decade, with a total of 1,815 industrial enterprises involved.  These measures will continue in order to save 600,000 kilowatts of power, accounting for 12% of actual power demand, but the Regulation and Control Team is contemplating more aggressive moves if necessary.  
 

Production at lead-acid battery enterprises in Wuhan has been negatively affected by the shortage of electricity, with operating rates falling as a result.  Since orders received by battery producers are currently low, any negative impact is still manageable.
