2009 April Zn Imports and Exports Data Analysis
SHANGHAI, May 22 (SMM) --
Zinc Concentrate:
According to China Customs, imports of zinc concentrate were 350kt during April, up 82.4% MoM. YTD imports were 1.04 million mt (up to April), up 43.3% YoY, exceeding the previous record of 294.4kt from September 2007. Although domestic output of zinc concentrate was growing gradually, market supply was still lower than actual demand due to high output at zinc smelters during April and May.
Refined Zinc:
China's imports of refined zinc were 106kt during April, down 12.2% MoM. Cumulative imports were 317kt from January to April, up 799% YoY. China's exports of refined zinc were 330mt during April, down 58% MoM. Cumulative exports were 4,178mt from January to April, down 86.3% YoY.
Zinc Oxide:
China's exports of zinc oxide were 914mt during April, with YTD cumulative exports of 3,292mt, down 80.27% YoY. Imports of zinc oxide were 1,315mt, with YTD cumulative imports of 4,128mt, down 34.3% YoY, and in line with market expectations.
