Limited peak-season boost restricts upside for brass billet operating rates [SMM Brass Billet Market Weekly Review]

Published: Nov 05, 2026 18:05 (GMT+8)

This week (10.3-11.05), the operating rate of SMM brass billet sample enterprises was 48.23%, up 0.32 percentage points WoW.Copper prices pulled back this week, easing cost pressure on enterprises to some extent. Most brass billet enterprises saw a marginal rebound in orders, driving operating rates slightly higher. However, the tight supply of recycled brass raw materials persisted, with ex-China suppliers holding back from selling. Raw material procurement pressure remained significant, and limited improvement in processing margins constrained production volume. On the downstream demand side, orders for plumbing and valve fittings remained relatively firm, serving as the main support for current orders, while demand in sectors such as hardware fittings was weak, with production largely scheduled based on orders and limited initiative to stockpile. This week, overall inventory at sample enterprises remained at low levels, and enterprises stayed cautious about restocking raw materials.

Looking ahead to next week (11.06-11.12), SMM expects the operating rate of brass billet sample enterprises to edge up to 48.29%, up only 0.06 percentage points WoW, with the increase narrowing.Market expectations for future orders are generally mediocre, and the raw material shortage is unlikely to improve significantly in the short term, continuing to constrain capacity release. The industry's "underperform in peak season" pattern persists, making it difficult for operating rates to deliver an upside surprise.

Qualcomm reported fiscal Q4 2026 revenue of $10.32 billion and adjusted EPS of $2.17, above consensus of $10.11 billion and $2.16. It guided next-quarter revenue to $10.4-11.2 billion (consensus $10.48 billion) and adjusted EPS of $2.15-2.35, below the $2.32 consensus at the midpoint. As memory chip shortages and rising costs prompt handset makers to cut output, phone chip revenue fell 26% to $5.14 billion, with total revenue down 8%. CEO Cristiano Amon said data center constraints stem from supply, not demand, with data center revenue seen reaching $5 billion in fiscal 2027. Automotive revenue rose 89% to about $2 billion and IoT revenue grew 4% to about $1.89 billion, beating estimates. Qualcomm shares fell 5%+ after hours.

Hon Hai reported October revenue of NT$1.31 trillion (about $39.7 billion), up 46% year on year, reflecting continued build-out of global AI infrastructure and sustained demand for Nvidia servers. September revenue rose 38% year on year to a record NT$1.16 trillion, lifting third-quarter revenue 47% to NT$3.03 trillion, 7% above market expectations. Cloud and networking, driven by AI server demand, were again the main growth engine, with computing products and components also growing.
