[SMM Daily Review: Oil Price Plunge and Short Covering Drive Silver Rebound, Spot Trades Sluggish] SMM, November 3: The sharp drop in oil prices eased inflation expectations, and combined with short covering, precious metals saw a corrective rebound; however, the spot market was suppressed by high prices...

Today, SMM's 10:00 a.m. price for the Shanghai Gold Exchange Ag (T+D) is 11,990 yuan/kg, with the premium/discount range quoted at parity to +15 yuan/kg against TD, and a weighted average price of 7.5 yuan/kg; against the most-traded SHFE 2612 contract, it is at a discount of 30-15 yuan/kg.

On the macro front, international oil prices posted their biggest drop in three months, with WTI falling 6.53% to $95.42 and Brent falling 8.03% to $104.23. Both the US and Iran signaled openness to negotiations, and the sharp drop in oil prices eased the energy variable that had previously pushed up inflation expectations. The repair of the inflation premium, combined with short covering, drove a rebound in precious metals. Subsequent signals still need to focus on this week's US midterm elections and non-farm payrolls data for guidance.

In the spot market, the basis narrowed slightly to around 30-35 yuan/kg today. Traders remained firm in holding prices, with offers on the high side. Morning offers in Shanghai were concentrated at a discount of 20-15 yuan/kg against the SHFE 2612 contract. After silver prices rose, downstream purchasing sentiment was weak today, with actual transactions mainly driven by acceptance bill discounting demand. Some deals were concentrated at a small premium to TD, while some low-priced offers remained in the market.

Overall, driven by the pullback in oil prices and short covering, precious metals showed a corrective rebound; however, the spot side was suppressed by high prices, with overall sluggish trading, as the market awaited guidance from macro data.

Resolute reports 44,398 ounces of quarterly gold production as spending rises
[SMM Gold Flash] Resolute Mining's gold production totalled 44,398 ounces in the September quarter, compared with 45,192 ounces in the preceding quarter. All-in sustaining costs increased to US$2,506/oz from US$2,484/oz. Quarterly capital expenditure rose to US$85.3 million, including US$52.9 million at the Doropo development project in Côte d’Ivoire. Production came from Syama in Mali and Mako in Senegal. Resolute retained the previously revised 2026 production guidance of 205,000–225,000 ounces and AISC guidance of US$2,250–2,350/oz, calculated using a US$4,000/oz gold price assumption. The report therefore records higher development spending rather than another guidance reduction.

Implats reports 3% decline in quarterly PGM production
[SMM PGM Flash] Impala Platinum Holdings' group 6E production declined 3% year on year to 854,000 ounces in the quarter ended 30 September. Managed operations and joint ventures produced 665,000 ounces and 133,000 ounces respectively, both down 4%, while third-party receipts increased 8% to 56,000 ounces. Gross refined and saleable production fell 8% to 763,000 ounces, and sales volumes declined 6% to 796,000 ounces. Five employees died during the quarter. Safety stoppages, including a four-day safety reset, contributed to approximately 52,000 ounces of foregone production at Impala Rustenburg. Implats maintained its FY2027 guidance for volumes, costs and capital expenditure. Delivery will depend on safer and more consistent operating performance, alongside processing capacity and the treatment of accumulated concentrate inventories; unchanged guidance does not mean the quarter’s production losses have been recovered.
