XPeng's IRON Robot with Solid-State Battery Enters Small-Batch Production, Aims for 2027 Global Deployment

Published: Oct 28, 2026 13:16 (GMT+8)
According to China Business Network, Gu Jie, Vice President of XPeng Group, said that the solid-state battery for XPeng's IRON robot has rolled off the production line in small-batch mass production, and the robot is currently in the pre-SOP stage. At the 2025 XPeng Tech Day, the company officially announced that the new-generation humanoid robot IRON will be the first in the industry to use an all-solid-state battery. The company plans to achieve large-scale mass production of advanced humanoid robots by the end of 2026, and expects to gradually deploy them in XPeng stores and commercial settings worldwide starting in 2027, where they will take on services such as shopping guidance and product explanation.

CATL: All-Solid-State Battery to Enter Small-Batch Production in 2027
On October 27, CATL responded to investor questions on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's Hudongyi platform regarding the progress of its Hefei sulphide solid-state pilot base, stating that the company continues to make firm investments in all-solid-state batteries, its technology is at an industry-leading level, and small-batch production is expected to be achieved in 2027. This statement is consistent with the pace previously disclosed by the company: small-scale trial production will begin in 2027, with large-scale mass production expected around 2030.

Solid-State Batteries: Multiple Bottlenecks Hinder Mass Production; 2027–2030 Seen as a Critical Period
Solid-state batteries are unlikely to achieve mass production in the near term. The key bottlenecks remain the solid–solid interface and processes that have not yet been fixed. Rather than pursuing blind capacity expansion, the industrial chain should prioritize interface engineering and cross-licensable patents, while using pilot lines to advance technology, solid-liquid hybrid products to sustain cash flow, and patents and standards to secure future positioning.
