【SMM Analysis】 September Flake Graphite Exports Edge Down MoM, with Declines in Multiple Countries as the Main Drag

SMM, October 21: In September 2026, China's flake graphite imports reached 3,184 mt, down 66% MoM and up 35% YoY.

In September 2026, China's flake graphite imports reached 3,184 mt, down 66% MoM and up 35% YoY.
In September 2026, on the export side, monthly exports stood at 6,221 mt, down 2% MoM and up 5% YoY.
By export destination, Europe was the strongest engine driving the increase in exports, with some countries in Asia and Africa (mainly new additions from zero) also providing incremental support. Among them, Italy posted a MoM increase of 158.8 mt, making it the largest source of growth in Europe for the month, while the UK, Russia, and Vietnam rose by 226 mt, 40 mt, and 18 mt MoM, respectively. Iran edged up 6 mt MoM, and the US in North America exported 1,522.62 mt this month, up 42.62 mt MoM. In contrast, multiple Asian countries were a major drag, with South Korea down 528.035 mt MoM, the largest absolute decline in the table, Indonesia plunging 425.395 mt MoM, Japan down 106.128 mt MoM, and Malaysia down 4.502 mt MoM. In addition, some markets on other continents also trended lower, with Canada in North America down 77.566 mt MoM and Spain in Europe down 68 mt MoM.
