[AI data centers use 20-40 tonnes of copper per MW, adding new demand]

Published: Oct 16, 2026 10:08 (GMT+8)
Every AI data center requires substantial power, and essentially all of that power moves through copper. Data compiled by MINING indicates that a data center uses roughly 20 to 40 tonnes of copper for each megawatt of power. This copper intensity means the rapid build-out of AI computing clusters and hyperscale facilities is translating directly into additional refined copper consumption. The metal is used in cables, busbars, transformers, switchgear and other power-distribution equipment, making data-center construction a visible source of incremental demand. The article discusses generating monthly income via NYSEARCA:IYM, but its central premise remains the AI-driven copper trade. For the copper supply chain, demand is dispersed across end users, yet per-project volumes are large enough to support refined copper consumption expectations.

[Mingyi Electronics Launches High-Aspect-Ratio Gantry Line Electroplating Equipment for AI Servers and IC Substrates]
According to Sanfu New Materials, Mingyi Electronics under Sanfu New Materials has launched a new product series—high-aspect-ratio gantry line electroplating equipment, capable of supporting the production of boards with aspect ratios of 40:1 and above. This series of equipment can be customized according to client needs, is compatible with phosphorized copper balls and insoluble anode systems, and can meet the electroplating requirements for high-end circuit boards such as high-aspect-ratio AI server PCB boards and IC substrates. The equipment has passed various technical tests and has gained recognition from leading server PCB manufacturing clients in China. Multiple equipment orders are already in hand, and the production lines for this series of equipment have entered the production and delivery stage.
