[SMM PV Flash] Trina Solar Proposes New Classification for UV-Induced Degradation in TOPCon Cells

Published: Oct 15, 2026 11:27 (GMT+8)
Trina Solar researchers have proposed dividing ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID) in TOPCon solar cells into reversible UVID and irreversible UVID to distinguish temporary power losses that can recover from permanent performance degradation. The classification is aligned with the IEC TS 63624-1 ultraviolet degradation testing specification currently under development and is intended to improve consistency in reliability testing, warranty assessment and long-term performance forecasting. As TOPCon becomes a mainstream commercial technology, separating recoverable and permanent UV-related degradation could improve the accuracy of long-term module reliability and project risk assessments.

[SMM PV Flash] Yingli's New Steel Frame Modules Deployed at Scale in Northwest Gobi Power Station
Recently, Yingli Solar’s zinc-aluminum-magnesium steel frame PV modules achieved batch shipment, officially supplying the 180 MW ecological restoration PV project in Shizuishan, Ningxia. The project is located in the northwestern Gobi, where day-night temperature differences are extreme, wind and sand impact is intense, and saline-alkali and salt-spray corrosion are prominent. It represents a typical desert-Gobi-wasteland harsh operating condition in China, imposing extremely high requirements on the anti-corrosion performance, structural reliability, and temperature adaptability of PV module frames. This project adopts large-format bifacial double-glass modules, fully equipped with Yingli Solar’s integrated steel frame solution, to withstand the long-term test of the complex desert environment. With the widespread application of large-format bifacial double-glass modules, complex power station scenarios such as the Gobi, saline-alkali lands, and high-cold areas with large temperature differences are posing new challenges to the structural strength and weather resistance of frames. The zinc-aluminum-magnesium steel frame solution, leveraging its material properties, has become an important technical direction for the industry’s “steel instead of aluminum” approach, suitable for various harsh outdoor operating conditions. Yingli Solar’s steel frame modules are a typical representative of the large-scale implementation of this route.

[SMM PV Newsletter] Risen Energy Jindun 3 EMS Fully Upgraded
As application scenarios such as industrial and commercial ESS, PV+ESS coordination, integration of PV, ESS and charging, distribution grid management, virtual power plants, electricity retailer management and microgrids continue to expand, the types of equipment within stations are increasing, communication protocols are becoming more complex, and the difficulty of equipment coordination keeps rising. At the same time, operational demands such as peak-valley price spread, demand control and grid interaction are growing, making it increasingly difficult for traditional management approaches that rely on manual configuration and a single strategy to balance system safety, operational efficiency and project returns. Against this backdrop, the EMS serves as the "control centre" of the entire station, coordinating PV, energy storage, charging facilities and campus loads, and executing strategies such as charge and discharge, reverse power prevention and demand control based on electricity prices, loads and transformer capacity. Currently, Risen Energy's Jindun EMS has been deployed in a large number of energy storage projects, enabling asset management of energy storage at scale. As the types of connected equipment, communication protocols and application scenarios continue to expand, project requirements for equipment adaptation, system scalability and intelligent O&M are also steadily increasing. Building on existing project experience, Risen Energy has launched its self-developed Jindun 3.0 EMS, integrating AI capabilities across local management and the Risen Cloud platform to drive station management from equipment control towards intelligent O&M and energy operations.
