Metro Mining Ships 659,000 mt of Bauxite in September; Reviews Annual Guidance Due to Disruptions

[SMM Aluminum Express News] Metro Mining ships 659,000 mt of bauxite in September as logistical disruptions prompt annual guidance review. Australian bauxite producer Metro Mining reported shipments of 659,000 wet metric tonnes (WMT) from its Bauxite Hills Mine in Queensland in September 2026, bringing cumulative shipments for January–September to 4.013 million WMT. According to its October 12 operational update, a sandbank collapse reduced the barging channel depth from 1.8 metres to 1.3 metres, restricting barging capacity. Mining operations were also affected by increased employee absenteeism and turnover, limiting equipment utilisation. Channel maintenance commenced in early October, with normal approved depth expected to be restored within two weeks. Meanwhile, Metro's offshore floating terminal Ikamba has achieved planned availability and loading rates of approximately 2,400 tonnes/hour, while a second floating crane has returned to service. Despite these improvements, Metro is reviewing its full-year 2026 shipment guidance as it addresses the operational disruptions. The company has not yet announced a revised target, leaving uncertainty over its remaining bauxite shipments this year.

Ukraine's Nord-Est Launches $300K Aluminum Recycling Plant, Aims for 1,680 mt/year Capacity
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Ukraine's Nord-Est begins aluminum recycling operations at US$300,000 facility, targeting 1,680 mt/year capacity. Ukrainian company Nord-Est has commenced trial operations at its aluminum recycling facility in the Solva-Tech Industrial Park in Zakarpattia, western Ukraine. The plant will process aluminum scrap into ingots, with a planned capacity of 140 mt/month, equivalent to approximately 1,680 mt/year. According to Ukrainian lawmaker Dmytro Kysylevskyi, the project involved approximately US$300,000 in investment to refurbish equipment that had been idle since 2012. Full-capacity operations are targeted for spring 2027. The facility will source part of its scrap from a nearby window manufacturing operation. Nord-Est also plans to expand into higher-value aluminum products for the food, automotive and energy equipment industries in 2027. Although the project's capacity is relatively small, it represents an addition to Ukraine's domestic secondary aluminum processing industry, with no direct impact on primary aluminum production.
