[ArcelorMittal Restarts Eisenhüttenstadt BF 5A After Disruption, Long-Term Route Unresolved]

Published: Oct 08, 2026 15:43 (GMT+8)
ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt has restarted blast furnace 5A after production at the plant was interrupted at the end of September, following an operational irregularity detected at the furnace that led the company to partially halt production. At the time, the company said its technical teams were working to stabilize operations and expected regular production to resume shortly. Questions remain over how long the furnace can keep operating, as no definitive timeline for its continued operation or shutdown has been provided. The uncertainty follows ArcelorMittal's June 2025 decision not to proceed with its planned DRI and EAF-based decarbonization projects at its Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt plants, leaving BF 5A central to production at the site, which has an annual crude steel capacity of about 2.5 million mt.

[SMM Steel] Indonesian HRC Climbs $5/mt to $525 FOB as Mills Feel Stronger Demand
[Indonesia] With the workweek resumed, HRC prices have been updated and now stand at USD 525/metric ton FOB. The move reflects rising demand from buyers, which is also being felt at local mills. Demand has fluctuated over the past few days and influenced prices, and this was evident again today. There have been reports of raw material issues, but these have not affected the market. Mill-side market participants hope conditions will keep improving beyond spot price changes, though there is still no prediction of how strong the underlying fundamental trend will be.
