[Mining Experts Say Aceh Holds All Three Key Raw Materials to Build an Integrated Steel Industry]

Published: Oct 07, 2026 14:57 (GMT+8)
Aceh has the resources to develop a steel industry from upstream to downstream, according to Resvani, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Experts Association (Perhapi). Exploration data show the province holds iron ore, coal for use as a reductant, and limestone, the three main raw materials for steelmaking. Speaking at a national seminar in Banda Aceh on October 4, 2026, Resvani said downstreaming should go beyond intermediate products to finished goods, which generate greater added value. He added that Aceh's strategic location could support a role as a trade and industrial hub, provided mining follows good mining practice and meets environmental, community, and fiscal obligations.

[SMM Steel] Indonesian HRC Holds at $520/mt FOB as Concerns Over Price Rises Emerge
[Indonesia] HRC prices in Indonesia currently stand at USD 520/tonne FOB and remain generally stable. Based on available market information, however, concerns about a potential price rise are becoming more apparent, driven by rising raw material costs and higher slab prices in other regions, which are likely to push up HRC and its derivative products. These concerns have not yet been reflected in concrete price movements and need closer monitoring. Alongside demand, this could become another factor influencing sheet product prices.
