[ Raspadskaya Suspends Coking Coal Production After Mine Fire ]

Published: Oct 07, 2026 13:52 (GMT+8)
Russia's Raspadskaya PJSC indefinitely suspended operations at its largest coking coal mine following a dangerous fire in a dismantling chamber on September 30, 2026. All 305 miners were safely evacuated, but the resulting stoppage immediately threatens critical metallurgical coal supplies to both domestic and Asian steelmakers. The severe operational halt compounds existing structural difficulties for the facility, which had already recorded a 16.5% year-on-year drop in production to 8.6 million tonnes during the January–August 2026 period.
