[SMM Steel] Indonesian Wire Rod Prices Flat at $505/ton, China Holiday Lull Masks El Niño Supply Risk

Published: Oct 01, 2026 15:41 (GMT+8)
[Indonesia] Wire rod prices currently stand at 505 USD/metric ton. With the start of the holiday season in China—which is considered one of the main drivers of prices in the Southeast Asian region—market activity is also expected to slow down. On the competitive front, the market may be awaiting price updates from mills in Vietnam, as they typically update their prices monthly. However, in the domestic market, fundamentals are still considered sluggish. El Niño conditions affecting IMIP are also ongoing, and this may hamper production. However, since mills have already scheduled shipments through January 2027, this should not yet be an issue for the market.

[India Export] Indian HRC export prices remained unchanged at 660USD/tonne FOB India for Europe and 730-750USD/tonne CFR North Europe, while Vietnam-bound HRC held at 567.5USD/tonne CFR. Last-heard European deals were at 720–730USD/tonne CFR, with subsequent offers at 740–750USD/tonne CFR yet to be confirmed in fresh transactions. Domestically, Mumbai HRC remained at approximately 656USD/tonne (63,000INR/tonne) EXW, excluding GST. Higher coking-coal costs continued to support domestic mill sentiment, while market participants cited expectations of stronger post-monsoon infrastructure and automotive demand.
