India's Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited approved a ₹190 crore ($22.8 million) capital expenditure plan on September 21, 2026, to expand its total Direct Reduced Iron (DRI/sponge iron) production capacity from 700,000 MTPA to 907,400 MTPA—a 30% aggregate increase. The investment will increase capacity at the Ghugus facility in Maharashtra from 630,000 MTPA to 815,000 MTPA (costing ₹140 crore) and at the Konsari plant from 70,000 MTPA to 92,400 MTPA (costing ₹50 crore). The debottlenecking expansion, funded via internal accruals and targeted for completion within 12 months, will process captive iron ore to supply local electric arc furnaces.

German steel distributor Knauf Interfer inaugurated a major expansion of its Delta Stahl service centre in Barsinghausen on October 14, 2026. The capital upgrade includes a brand-new, high-speed cut-to-length line designed to optimize the processing of heavyweight flat-rolled coils. The enhanced downstream capacity allows the distributor to capture higher margins by fulfilling specialized, just-in-time structural steel orders for Northern Europe's demanding manufacturing tier. [ Norway Initiates Reuse of Decommissioned Ship Steel for Construction ]
Norwegian authorities introduced a targeted industrial initiative on October 17, 2026, focusing on the direct reuse of structural steel from decommissioned maritime vessels in domestic construction projects. The circular economy mandate aims to heavily slash the carbon footprint associated with importing virgin flat-rolled and structural steel products. By repurposing high-grade maritime scrap, the country systematically curbs local dependence on foreign electric arc furnace and blast furnace production. [SMM Iron Ore]

[ Třinecké Železárny Declares Force Majeure Following Continuous Caster Accident ]
Czech steelmaker Třinecké Železárny declared force majeure in mid-October 2026 following a significant industrial accident at its continuous casting plant. The critical equipment failure heavily restricts the integrated mill's ability to process liquid steel into semi-finished billets and blooms. The unexpected operational halt disrupts scheduled deliveries of long products across Central Europe, forcing regional buyers to urgently seek alternative rolling stock. [SMM Iron Ore]
