[SMM Steel] Vietnam Import HRC Prices Stable as Buyers Remain Cautious

[Vietnam] Vietnam’s import HRC market remained stable, with HRC assessed at USD 535/tonne CFR Vietnam. Two Indonesian mills maintained offers for SAE-grade coils at around USD 540/tonne CFR Vietnam, while Vietnamese buyers remained largely absent from the market. Market participants said buyers were generally unwilling to place orders above USD 535/tonne CFR, leaving trading activity subdued.

[Indian recyclers seek lower GST, easier scrap imports]

India’s metal recycling industry has urged the government to cut GST on metal scrap to 5% from 18% and remove the Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (PSIC) requirement for scrap imports. Recyclers said the high GST increases working capital needs, while overseas inspection adds costs and can delay shipments. The government is also promoting critical mineral recycling through a INR 1,500-crore incentive scheme, with 58 companies approved so far and around 850 KTPA of planned recycling capacity.

[Neelachal Ispat Proposes Raising Odisha Iron Ore Mine Capacity to 15 Mtpa]

Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) has proposed expanding production at its iron ore mine in Odisha from 2 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 15 Mtpa of run-of-mine ore and installing a 10 Mtpa iron ore beneficiation plant. The project covers a mining lease area of 874.29 hectares across Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts. The proposal has entered the environmental-appraisal process as a fresh Terms of Reference application. NINL, now part of Tata Steel, currently holds environmental clearance for 2 Mtpa of iron ore production from the mine.
