Indonesia Commodity Exchange chief regulator Sardjito said at a parliamentary hearing on Tuesday that the country's newly established ICOMEX commodity exchange plans to begin trading on January 4, 2027, with tin to be included among the first traded commodities. Slides he presented showed that Indonesian state-owned mining companies are expected to be among the first participants.

The commodity exchange, ICOMEX, is one of President Prabowo's initiatives to strengthen state control over natural resources and their revenues. Prabowo has previously stressed that Indonesia should not sell its resources at low prices. OJK Chairman Friderica said the exchange will help combat underreporting of prices and transfer pricing in exports.

OJK expects to issue regulations for the exchange on September 17, with the exchange to be established on the same day and its license to be issued on January 1. Sardjito said trading in mineral and strategic commodities is expected to officially commence through the ICOMEX entity on January 4, 2027.
