[SMM PV Flash] Visible light transmittance of 43.2%, efficiency of 9.26% — Fraunhofer ISE develops semi-transparent organic PV module

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) and the University of Freiburg have developed semi-transparent organic PV modules using a scalable production process, achieving a maximum module efficiency of 9.26%, an average visible light transmittance of 43.2%, and a maximum light utilization efficiency (LUE) of 4.0%. These modules can be used in scenarios that require both power generation and light transmission, such as building facades, greenhouses, and vehicle roofs. In addition, the researchers fabricated a flexible module prototype that retained 100% of its initial efficiency after being bent 1,274 times around a rod with a diameter of 15 mm.

Waaree's module output rose 41.5% year on year to 3.24 GW in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, and it holds 25.8 GW of module and 5.4 GW of cell capacity.

Denmark installed 336.7 MW of solar in the first half of 2026, an 11% increase year on year, bringing cumulative capacity to 5.4 GW, according to figures from the Danish solar association Dansk Solcelleforening. Rooftop solar continues to decline, with residential deployments falling from 36.3 MW to 28.2 MW and C&I from 55.2 MW to 37.2 MW.
