[SMM Energy Flash] Natural Power Wins Ground Survey Contract for 2 GW UK HVDC Link
Renewable energy consultancy Natural Power has secured a contract from SSEN Transmission to conduct ground investigation works for the onshore section of the planned Eastern Green Link 5 (EGL5) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project in the UK. The link is designed to transfer up to 2 GW of electricity, with investigation works covering the proposed onshore cable route and providing geotechnical and geoenvironmental data for the project’s design and development. Physical survey works are scheduled to begin around the end of August 2026. EGL5 forms part of wider investment in Britain’s transmission network aimed at increasing grid capacity and enabling greater volumes of renewable electricity to be transported to demand centres.

[SMM Energy Flash] CIP Acquires 408 MW Queensland Wind Project from Windlab
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has acquired the 408 MW Gawara Baya wind farm project in Queensland, Australia, from renewable energy developer Windlab and will now move the project into construction. The project will combine onshore wind generation with co-located grid-forming battery storage, strengthening both renewable electricity supply and grid stability. The transaction expands CIP’s Australian renewable-energy portfolio and marks the transition of Gawara Baya from development into the construction phase.
