[SMM Rare Earth Morning Briefing] Pr-Nd Oxide and Dysprosium Oxide Rise Together, Metals Follow Suit with Transactions Gaining Traction, Magnetic Material Scrap Prices Increase Across the Board

Published: Aug 27, 2026 10:14
[Pr-Nd oxide and dysprosium oxide rise together, metals follow gains with transactions catching up, magnetic material scrap sees full-scale price increases] Yesterday, Pr-Nd oxide extended this week's upward trend amid fluctuations in futures prices; dysprosium oxide prices, driven by large-factory purchases, continued to rise. Overall, Pr-Nd oxide and dysprosium oxide prices rose in tandem, terbium oxide remained stable, and major rare earth product prices consolidated on a strong note.

SMM, August 27:

Rare Earth Ore:

Prices: Medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore prices were about 248,000 yuan/mt, monazite prices were about 43,000 yuan/mt, and rare earth carbonate prices were about 59,300 yuan/mt.

Supply and Demand: Currently, the supply of ion-adsorption rare earth ore from Southeast Asia dipped slightly from the previous period, and oxide prices began to rise. Overall transaction prices for rare earth ores started to edge up.

Rare Earth Oxides:

Prices: Pr-Nd oxide offers continued to rise, with a small volume of transactions following; dysprosium oxide prices increased further, while terbium oxide price fluctuations were relatively small.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, influenced by fluctuations in futures prices, Pr-Nd oxide extended its upward trend for the week; dysprosium oxide prices continued to move higher, driven by purchases from major producers. Overall, Pr-Nd oxide and dysprosium oxide prices rose together, while terbium oxide remained stable. Prices of major rare earth products consolidated on a strong note.

Rare Earth Metals:

Prices: Pr-Nd alloy prices edged up, with increased market inquiry activity, dysprosium-iron alloy prices continued to rise, and terbium metal prices were flat.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, Pr-Nd alloy prices edged up, mainly driven by raw material prices. Metal producers raised their offer prices, and market inquiry activity increased, with transactions following sequentially. However, concluding deals at high prices remained difficult. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, as low-priced oxide supply continued to tighten, dysprosium-iron alloy prices rose further, while terbium metal prices saw no significant adjustment, operating steadily overall.

NdFeB Blanks:

Prices: NdFeB blank N38 (Ce) was quoted at 212-222 yuan/kg, blank 38M at 250-270 yuan/kg, and blank 38UH at 357-377 yuan/kg.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, NdFeB blank offers increased slightly, primarily because rising raw material prices drove up magnetic material prices. On the trading side, in the last week of August, most downstream motor plants and end-users gradually resumed operations, and the frequency of inquiries for export orders increased. However, actual order volumes remained limited, leaving overall market trading volume modest.

NdFeB Scrap:

Prices: Prices for Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap continued to rise, while prices for dysprosium and terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap held steady.

Supply and Demand: Yesterday, scrap market prices continued to rise, mainly driven by persistently higher oxide prices. Purchase offers from recycling enterprises continued to increase, and some scrap suppliers showed a greater willingness to sell. Although the circulation of compliant, tax-inclusive scrap in the market edged up, most suppliers remained in a wait-and-see stance, and procurement for recycling enterprises remained difficult.

NdFeB Magnet Demand Slows in July; Peak Season Likely Delayed【SMM Analysis】
China's NdFeB magnet demand fell in July as output across key sectors—NEVs, air conditioners, and washing machines—slowed due to seasonal weakness, extreme weather, and inventory drawdowns. August is shaping up as a transition month with only modest export improvements. Consequently, the traditional "Golden September, Silver October" peak season is likely delayed. Long-term demand fundamentals, however, remain unchanged.

Lynas Reports Strong FY2026 Results with Revenue at $977.9M, Driven by Higher Rare Earth Prices
[SMM Rare Earth News Flash] Australian rare earth producer Lynas released its FY2026 results on August 26. Benefiting from higher rare earth prices and an increased share of heavy rare earth sales, full-year revenue reached $977.9 million, with net profit surging to $222.4 million from $8 million in the same period last year. The company's total rare earth oxide (REO) sales increased 11% YoY to 12,122 mt, with the average selling price rising to $80.7/kg from $55/kg in the previous year. Among them, Pr-Nd sales grew 12% to 7,337 mt. The CIF Europe price of neodymium oxide increased 73% YoY to $121/kg, and terbium oxide price increased 58% YoY to $4,500/kg. The company's heavy rare earth expansion project at its Kuantan plant in Malaysia saw its cost expectations raised from A$180 million to A$294 million, mainly due to higher client purity requirements and rising overseas equipment procurement costs. In March this year, Lynas achieved commercial production of samarium oxide for the first time at its Kuantan plant, further expanding its heavy rare earth product line.

Xiamen Tungsten Reports 81.70% Revenue Growth, Rare Earth Business Surges 51.50% in H1 2026
[SMM Rare Earth News] Xiamen Tungsten Co., Ltd. (600549) released its 2026 semi-annual report on August 20, with H1 revenue reaching 35.014 billion yuan, up 81.70% YoY; net profit attributable to the parent was 2.201 billion yuan, up 127.04% YoY. All three core businesses of tungsten-molybdenum, rare earth, and energy new materials posted double growth in revenue and profit. The rare earth business performed strongly: revenue for the reporting period was 4.355 billion yuan, up 51.50% YoY; total profit reached 145 million yuan, up 101.41% YoY. Key deep-processed product magnetic materials actively expanded markets outside China, achieving growth in new energy vehicles, energy-saving home appliances, electric motors, and other sectors, with H1 sales of 6,706 mt, up 29% YoY. On rare earth resources, the company holds stakes in Zhongxi Xiamen Tungsten to jointly develop Fujian's rare earth resources and cooperated with China Rare Earth Group and China Northern Rare Earth in the construction and operation of rare earth smelting and separation. On key projects, both the 1,400 mt nanoscale rare earth oxide production line and the 5,000 mt high-performance rare earth permanent magnets capacity expansion project for energy-saving motors have been gradually put into production.
