NovaMea Teams Up with European Enterprises to Advance AEM Stack R&D, Accelerate Hydrogen Production Technology Industrialisation

Published: Aug 26, 2026 13:53

Recently, NovaMea announced a deep strategic cooperation with two European industrial partners. Leveraging the company's self-developed anion exchange membrane and supporting catalysts, electrodes, and other core materials, the cooperation focuses on two application scenarios: plastic recycling and low-carbon park energy utilization. Together, they will promote the technical verification and product development of AEM electrolysis stacks, accelerating the extension of AEM hydrogen production technology from core materials to stack systems and practical industrial applications.

Joining Forces with a Swiss Company: From 10 kW Verification to 100 kW Stack R&D

NovaMea has officially signed a 100 kW AEM stack joint development strategic cooperation agreement with Swiss stack company H. The stack will fully adopt NovaMea's self-developed AEM membrane and supporting catalyst and electrode materials.

Prior to this, the jointly developed 10 kW stack prototype has completedover 1,000 hours of continuous stable operation testing, laying a solid foundation for the next phase of 100 kW stack system integration, performance optimization iteration, and engineering verification.

This cooperative project is mainly oriented towards the plastic pyrolysis recycling application scenario, planning to provide high-purity green hydrogen through the AEM electrolysis system for the subsequent processing of plastic pyrolysis products. Plastic pyrolysis, as an important technical route for waste plastic resource utilization, has high requirements for hydrogen purity and supply stability. With its excellent dynamic response characteristics, AEM electrolysis technology is expected to provide a low-carbon, flexible green hydrogen supply solution for related processes, helping to create a "green hydrogen – plastic recycling" synergistic development model.

Collaborating with an Italian Company: Laying Out 100 kW to Megawatt-Level AEM Stacks

To meet the consumption needs of distributed new energy, NovaMea has also signed a deep strategic cooperation agreement with Italian enterprise A. The two parties will jointly advancethe R&D of 100 kW to megawatt (MW)-level AEM stacks, focusing on low-carbon integrated energy park application scenarios.

The project plans to use surplus electricity from PV power generation in the park to produce green hydrogen, and supply the produced hydrogen to enterprises in the park with hydrogen demand, exploring an integrated energy operation model of on-site conversion, on-site consumption, and on-site utilization of PV power.

AEM electrolysis technology has a wide load adjustment range, which can well adapt to the intermittency and fluctuation characteristics of PV power generation, flexibly adjusting hydrogen production power according to new energy output conditions. The two parties will carry out technical research and scenario verification around the "PV – hydrogen production – hydrogen utilization" synergistic system, providing a new technical pathway for new energy consumption and low-carbon transformation in the park.

Synergistic Efforts in Materials and Stacks to Enhance Multi-Scenario Adaptability

The anion exchange membrane and its supporting catalysts and electrodes are core key components of the AEM electrolysis system. NovaMea has always adhered to the independent R&D route for core materials, and through deep collaboration with European stack R&D and system integration enterprises, it promotes close connection and efficient linkage of the entire chain of "core materials – stack development – scenario validation".

From the long-term operation verification of the 10 kW prototype, to the joint development of the 100 kW stack, and then to the strategic layout of 100 kW to MW-level products, NovaMea is continuously optimizing the comprehensive performance and scenario adaptability of AEM membranes, catalysts, and electrode products around different power levels and operating conditions.

Looking ahead, NovaMea will continue to deepen technical cooperation with European industrial partners, promote synergistic innovation of AEM core materials, stack technology, and industrial application scenarios, and accelerate the engineering verification and industrialisation application of AEM hydrogen production technology.
