【SMM Nickel Flash News】Indonesia Holds Off on Nickel Export Duty and Windfall Tax in 2026

Published: Aug 24, 2026 11:55

Indonesia will not impose export duties or a windfall tax on nickel this year, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Aug. 21. He added that the government has yet to discuss the policy for 2027 in detail.

The decision means no additional export tax burden on Indonesian nickel is expected in 2026, although the possibility of introducing such measures next year remains open. The government had previously considered export duties and windfall taxes on nickel and coal as a means of increasing state revenue.
