BHP and SiTration Launch Copper Recovery Pilots from Legacy Mine Water in Arizona

BHP and MIT spinout SiTration have launched two pilot deployments to recover copper from legacy mine water at BHP’s Copper Cities site in Arizona. A one-month continuous pilot starts this month, followed by a larger deployment later this year targeting up to two tonnes of commercial-scale copper cathode over two months. Bench testing has already produced LME Grade A copper, with preliminary energy consumption below 4 kWh/kg and no added chemicals or new waste streams.

LME ratio of cancelled warrants increased significantly

According to the latest LME inventory data, on August 21, total LME copper inventories were 240,250 mt; registered warrants were 118,875 mt, a decrease of 29.49% from the previous trading day; cancelled warrants were 121,375 mt, an increase of 73.45% from the previous trading day; the cancelled ratio surged by 21.19 percentage points to 50.52%.
