[China's Shipbuilding Accelerates Toward Zero-Carbon Future]

The shipping industry carries over 80% of global cargo transportation volume, with its greenhouse gas emissions accounting for about 3% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Under the "dual carbon" goals and the global consensus on combating climate change, emission reduction has become a "must-answer" question for the green transformation of the shipping industry. Zero-carbon emissions are regarded as the ultimate goal of green transformation in shipping. Currently, global shipping enterprises are accelerating their shift to clean energy, with LNG, methanol, and ammonia emerging as key alternative fuel pathways for green ship development. "A 210,000 mt ammonia dual-fuel bulk carrier equipped with a specially R&D and manufactured ammonia fuel main engine and supply system can achieve near-zero carbon operation for a single voyage from Qingdao to Brazil or a round trip from Qingdao to Australia after full tank filling," said Zhang Chengshun, Deputy Chief Engineer of Beihai Shipbuilding. Focusing on new-type energy-saving technologies and applications of low-carbon and zero-carbon fuel power, the company has completed construction of a green fuel ship type matrix covering ammonia, LNG, methanol, ethanol, and others. Currently, green ships account for over 80% of orders on hand.
