At 13:00 on August 20 Peru time, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Ayacucho region in southern Peru, with the epicenter located about 35 km north of Coracora and a focal depth of 108 km. According to SMM, the earthquake has not yet affected major mining areas in Peru, and its overall impact on Peru's copper ore supply is limited.

SMM copper wire and cable enterprises' operating rate rose to 65.8%, up 3.55% MoM

This week (August 14-August 20), the operating rate of SMM copper wire and cable enterprises came in at 65.8%, up 3.55 percentage points WoW and down 3.08 percentage points YoY. Copper prices retreated from highs during the week, which briefly boosted downstream cargo pick-up willingness.
