On 19 August, Indian washed coal with 38–39% fixed carbon and 5,000 GCV was priced at INR 7,050/t FOR Raipur, up INR 50/t week on week. Monsoon conditions constrained the availability of suitable ROM coal, while slower SECL dispatches and less frequent auctions by CIL subsidiaries restricted washery production. Final bid prices for some grades at recent SECL auctions rose by as much as INR 1,500/t, further increasing replacement costs.
On the demand side, PDRI sponge iron prices in Raipur increased by INR 1,400/t week on week to INR 27,100/t. Stronger enquiries and improved trading activity provided some support for washed coal demand, although bulk purchases remained limited.
