[Vietnam] Formosa Ha Tinh Expands Workforce Amid Ongoing Export Market Pressure

Published: Aug 18, 2026 16:11
Formosa Ha Tinh Steel (FHS) plans to recruit 300 additional employees for production, maintenance and fire-prevention positions as the integrated steel complex continues to expand its workforce. The company currently operates a 3,318-hectare complex with annual steel and iron output of more than 6 million tonnes and employs over 6,500 workers. However, FHS continues to face pressure from trade-remedy measures in key export markets, including anti-dumping actions by the EU and India on Vietnamese HRC, while weaker Asian steel prices and higher financial costs continue to weigh on profitability.

[Outokumpu Starts New Biocoke Plant to Cut Ferrochrome Emissions]
Finland-based stainless steel producer Outokumpu has inaugurated a new biocoke agglomeration plant in Tornio, representing an investment of approximately USD 34.7 million. The facility processes biochar into biocoke to replace fossil coke in ferrochrome production and could reduce CO2 emissions by up to 82,000 tonnes annually at full capacity. Biocoke production has already started for both internal use and external customers. The project supports Outokumpu’s target to reduce value-chain CO2 emissions by 42% by 2030 from 2016 levels.
