[CATL Zeng Yuqun: Batteries That Are Not Zero-Carbon Will Be Phased Out by the Times]

Published: Aug 17, 2026 17:21
CATL (03750.HK) Chairman Zeng Yuqun stated at the 2026 CATL Core Operations Carbon Neutrality Launch Event that the commitment to the carbon-neutrality cause was for the sake of future generations, and that batteries that are not zero-carbon will be phased out by the times in the future. Zeng Yuqun said that climate change was a crisis that was truly happening; for example, Europe recently experienced its hottest June, with temperatures in Paris exceeding 40°C. Meanwhile, the ongoing geopolitical crisis over the past six months once again exposed the fragility and risks of the fossil-energy system. At the same time, the development of industrialization, electrification, and artificial intelligence also continued to drive up global energy and electricity demand; the greater the electricity demand, the higher the carbon emissions.

[Focus on Supply Chain Collaboration: CATL Unveils Its 2035 Full Value Chain Carbon Neutrality Action Plan] On August 17, at the 2026 CATL Core Operations Carbon Neutrality Release Conference, Huang Bin, Director of CATL’s Procurement Center and Director of the Planning and Materials Control Department, stated that more than 80% of carbon emissions across the full life cycle of lithium batteries come from various stages of the supply chain. In the next phase, CATL’s goal is to achieve full value chain carbon neutrality—from mineral resources to finished batteries—by 2035. To achieve this goal, the key lies in coordinated efforts across the supply chain. From accurately accounting for carbon footprints through the entire process of targeted emissions reduction, CATL broke down the objectives in detail and formulated specific action plans.
