[SMM Computing Power Midday Review] Low-Priced 4090s in the Pearl River Delta Revised Downward; Workstation-Grade Substitutes Suppressed Prices of Existing Cards

Published: Aug 17, 2026 11:55
The lowest hourly rate for 4090 cards in the Pearl River Delta fell to 1.27 yuan (down 2.31%), and the lowest monthly rental was revised down to 7,300 yuan. After removing the 300-yuan intermediary fee from Shenzhen data center quotes, the true rental price was restored; other prices remained stable. The 4090 was mainly used for on-premises enterprise inference, and as workstation-class substitutes such as NVIDIA DGX Spark diverted demand, slightly lower prices may become the norm.

[Market Overview] Today, the lowest price in the 4090 Pearl River Delta region was revised downward. The SMM-4090-24G-complete system-Pearl River Delta-monthly subscription minimum monthly rent was revised down to 7,300 yuan, and the lowest per-card-hour rate fell from 1.3 yuan to 1.27 yuan. This round of cuts resulted from restoring the true rental price after removing brokerage fees from a Shenzhen data center quotation; other prices remained stable.

[4090 Pearl River Delta: Brokerage Fee Removed, Low Price Restored and Revised Down] The SMM-4090-24G-complete system-Pearl River Delta-monthly subscription minimum per-card-hour rate fell from 1.3 yuan to 1.27 yuan, down 0.03 yuan, a decrease of 2.31%; the minimum monthly rent was revised down to 7,300 yuan. The driver was that a Shenzhen data center quotation had previously been listed at 7,600 yuan; after SMM verification, it was confirmed to include a 300-yuan brokerage fee. After removal, the true rental price was 7,300 yuan, and the lowest price was updated accordingly. Prices for other models and regions remained unchanged. It should be emphasized that this low-price revision was not caused by a supply-demand imbalance, but rather a price restoration following greater quotation transparency; the actual market transaction price center showed no obvious loosening.

[SMM Viewpoint] The low-price update for 4090 in the Pearl River Delta reflects that its demand was being diverted by new products positioned similarly. SMM believed three points warranted attention:

First, the core demand scenario for 4090 was enterprise on-premises deployment for large-model inference, and such demand was highly sensitive to cost performance;

Second, desktop-class AI workstation products such as NVIDIA DGX Spark were launched in succession, forming direct substitutes in personal development and edge inference scenarios and diverting part of the 4090 rental demand;

Third, workstation products entered the market in complete-system form, reducing users’ reliance on single-card rentals, and prices for the existing stock of 4090 cards were therefore under pressure. SMM believed that, as the most-traded consumer-grade model transitioning to AI, the 4090 rental price center would be constrained over the long term by workstation-class substitutes, and slightly lower prices might become the norm.

[SMM Computing Power Express] 5090 Servers Enter the Market in Concentration; The Market Is Suspected to Have Multiple Quoted Prices Under Different Descriptions From the Same Supply Source
SMM learned that a large number of 5090 servers have recently entered the market, with multiple channels promoting them simultaneously, and the quoted monthly rental rate per unit is about 12,000–14,000 yuan. Some channel sources reported that this kind of concentrated promotion is similar to the previous 4090 market situation, and it is suspected that the same supply is being quoted repeatedly under different descriptions. SMM also learned that in the previous 4090 Ningbo data center case, the same batch of supply was marked up at each layer after passing through multiple intermediaries; if the current large-scale entry of 5090s is indeed the same supply being quoted separately on the supply side, it will disrupt the market pricing system. Buyers are advised to verify the uniqueness of the supply when comparing prices and to be alert to inflated prices caused by repeated quotations.

[SMM Computing Power Express] 32 5090 Eight-GPU Servers for Rent in South China, Monthly Rent 13,200, Available on a Monthly Basis
SMM learned that a data center in South China released 32 RTX 5090 eight-GPU servers, with PCIe 5.0 specifications, at a monthly rental of 13,200 yuan per unit, available for monthly rentals with an open-ended contract. An open-ended contract means the price follows the market and is not locked, as opposed to a closed, price-locked contract. SMM believes that offering the 5090 model for monthly rental under an open-ended contract reflects the supply side’s tendency to retain pricing flexibility amid fluctuations in consumer-grade GPU prices.

[SMM Computing Power Express] Eight-GPU RTX PRO6000 System Quoted at 1.1883 million, Ships in 7 Days
SMM learned that a certain OEM quoted an RTX PRO6000-96G eight-GPU server, with a total tax-included price of 1.1883 million yuan per unit, to be shipped within 7 days with freight included. The single unit is configured with 8 RTX PRO6000-96G GPUs, dual AMD EPYC-9454 processors, and 128GB DDR5 memory. SMM believes that the market entry of the tax-included quoted price for the PRO6000 complete system reflects progress in standardized procurement.
