[SMM Rare Earth Daily Review: Rare Earth Prices Diverge; Pr-Nd Weak, Medium-Heavy Rare Earth Stable] Overall, downstream inquiry and purchasing interest was subdued, market inquiry activity remained thin, overall trading sentiment was sluggish, and rare earth prices continued to diverge: the Pr-Nd market was pressured by a continued pullback in futures prices, with some suppliers slightly lowering their quotes; medium-heavy rare earth prices were relatively firm and overall stable. In the short term, affected by the stalemate in market trading, Pr-Nd product prices are expected to remain in a narrow sideways consolidation pattern.

SMM, August 13: Rare earth prices diverged today. Specifically, in the oxide market, Pr-Nd oxide prices fell by 8,000 yuan/mt; dysprosium oxide prices were flat; terbium oxide prices were flat; gadolinium oxide prices fell by 500 yuan/mt; holmium oxide prices were flat; and erbium oxide prices were flat.

In the metal market, Pr-Nd alloy prices fell by 7,500 yuan/mt; dysprosium-iron alloy prices fell by 5,000 yuan/mt; terbium metal prices were flat; gadolinium-iron alloy prices were flat; holmium-iron market prices were flat; and lanthanum-cerium metal (alloy grade) prices were flat.

In markets outside China, praseodymium oxide FOB prices held steady this week; neodymium oxide FOB prices fell by $10/kg this week; terbium oxide FOB prices fell by $8/kg this week; dysprosium oxide FOB prices were flat this week; Pr-Nd oxide (FOB China) prices fell by $3/kg this week; praseodymium metal FOB prices fell by $4/kg this week; neodymium metal FOB prices fell by $4/kg this week; terbium metal FOB prices fell by $8/kg this week; and Pr-Nd alloy (FOB China) prices were flat this week.

At present, rare earth prices are diverging: Pr-Nd prices remain in the doldrums, while medium-heavy rare earth prices are relatively stable.

Focusing on the Pr-Nd market, due to the continued pullback in Pr-Nd oxide futures prices, some spot traders lowered their offers, dragging Pr-Nd oxide prices slightly lower; however, producers showed limited willingness to sell at low prices, and actual transactions were relatively stagnant. In the metal market, due to continued weakness in raw material prices, although some suppliers lowered their offers, metal producers showed little willingness to actively quote; the overall market was dominated by strong wait-and-see sentiment, and actual trading was lackluster.

In the medium-heavy rare earth market, although inquiry activity remained sluggish, suppliers left offers largely unchanged, and overall prices were stable. Among these, for gadolinium products, suppliers lowered their offers slightly due to the continued pullback in Pr-Nd prices.

Overall, downstream inquiries and buying interest remained low, market inquiry activity was still sparse, and overall trading activity was sluggish. Rare earth prices continued to show divergent trends: in the Pr-Nd market, some suppliers lowered their offers slightly due to the continued pullback in futures prices, while medium-heavy rare earth prices were relatively firm and generally stable. In the near term, due to the stalemate in market trading, Pr-Nd product prices are likely to move sideways in a narrow range.

[SMM Rare Earth Morning Meeting Summary] Bearishness Continues, Pr-Nd Oxide Remains Weak; Metals Follow the Decline with Sluggish Trading; Magnetic Materials Recover as Work Resumes
[Bearishness Persists, Pr-Nd Oxide Remains Weak; Metals Follow Lower with Sluggish Transactions; Magnetic Materials Recover as Work Resumes] Yesterday, affected by fluctuations in futures prices, most market participants maintained a bearish outlook. Downstream metal producers showed strong wait-and-see sentiment and low purchase willingness; some traders continued selling at low prices, leaving market transactions under pressure, and Pr-Nd oxide prices remained on a weak trend. In medium-heavy rare earths, dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide prices were relatively stable, with little overall change in the market.

"Australia and Vietnam Strengthen Critical Minerals, Semiconductor, and Clean Energy Supply Chain Cooperation"
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] Foreign media reported that Australia and Vietnam recently agreed to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership and will strengthen supply chain cooperation in areas such as critical minerals, semiconductors, and clean energy. The two sides expressed concern over restrictive trade measures disrupting global supply chains and signed multiple cooperation agreements. In H1 2026, Australia-Vietnam bilateral trade volume grew 22% YoY to $8.1 billion, with Australia's exports to Vietnam consisting mainly of coal, minerals, and natural gas.

Metallium Uses FJH Tech to Achieve High Purity in Rare Earths, Germanium, and PGMs from Raw Materials
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] REEX-Metallium Limited announced test results showing that the company used FJH technology to convert unrefined raw ore containing approximately 12% total rare earth oxides (TREO) into a mixed rare earth chloride product with purity exceeding 83%, with more than fourfold NdPr enrichment. Meanwhile, the company achieved up to 280-fold enrichment of germanium from zinc smelting scrap and obtained platinum-palladium-rhodium products with purity exceeding 60% from platinum group metal (PGM)-bearing material. In addition, red mud testing removed approximately 99% of iron and 94% of silicon, while retaining approximately 95% of aluminum and achieving separate gallium enrichment. The company has not yet disclosed key commercial metrics such as rare earth recovery rates, energy consumption, and operating costs, and the economics of scaling up FJH technology remain to be verified. Metallium currently targets first sales of processed PCB products in H1 2027.
