SMM August 11: Rare earth market prices were divergent on the day. Specifically, in the oxide market, Pr-Nd oxide price dropped by 3,500 yuan/mt, dysprosium oxide remained flat, terbium oxide remained flat, gadolinium oxide dropped by 2,500 yuan/mt, holmium oxide remained flat, and erbium oxide remained flat.
In the metal market, Pr-Nd alloy price dropped by 2,500 yuan/mt, dysprosium-iron alloy remained flat, terbium metal remained flat, gadolinium-iron alloy dropped by 2,500 yuan/mt, holmium-iron alloy price remained flat, and lanthanum-cerium metal (alloy grade) remained flat.
In markets outside China, the FOB price of praseodymium oxide was stable this week, neodymium oxide FOB price dropped by $10/kg this week, terbium oxide FOB price dropped by $8/kg this week, dysprosium oxide FOB price remained flat this week, Pr-Nd oxide (FOB China) price dropped by $3/kg this week, praseodymium metal FOB price dropped by $4/kg this week, neodymium metal FOB price dropped by $4/kg this week, terbium metal FOB price dropped by $8/kg this week, and Pr-Nd alloy (FOB China) price remained flat this week.
Currently, rare earth market prices are divergent: Pr-Nd prices are in the doldrums, while medium and heavy rare earth prices remain relatively stable.
Focusing on the Pr-Nd market, affected by the slight pullback in Pr-Nd oxide futures prices, some spot traders proactively lowered their quotes, dragging Pr-Nd oxide prices slightly lower, but factory quotes remained firm, limiting the actual decline. In the metal market, with the pullback in raw material prices, suppliers lowered their quotes accordingly, but willingness to sell at low prices was weak and trading remained stagnant.
In the medium and heavy rare earth market, inquiries remained sluggish, suppliers' quotes were little changed, and overall prices were stable. Among them, affected by the pullback in Pr-Nd prices, suppliers slightly lowered their quotes for gadolinium products, while inquiries remained thin.
Overall, market inquiries remained relatively few, trading atmosphere was sluggish, and rare earth prices were divergent: The Pr-Nd market saw some suppliers slightly lower their quotes due to the pullback in futures prices, while medium and heavy rare earth prices remained relatively firm and stable overall. It is expected that in the short term, with trading remaining stagnant, Pr-Nd product prices will likely move sideways in a narrow range.
