[China Iron Ore Brief] Iron ore concentrates prices in China may edge down next week.

Published: Aug 7, 2026 17:02
Prices in China's iron ore concentrates market fell notably this week. From a regional perspective, prices in Tangshan, Qian'an, and Qianxi in Hebei were cut by 15-20 yuan/mt; Chaoyang, Beipiao, and Jianping in western Liaoning edged down by 5-10 yuan/mt; and east China edged down by 5-10 yuan/mt.

This week, domestic iron ore concentrate prices declined notably. By region, prices in Tangshan, Qian’an, and Qianxi in Hebei were lowered by 15-20 yuan/mt; those in Chaoyang, Beipiao, and Jianping in western Liaoning edged down by 5-10 yuan/mt; and east China saw a decline of 5-10 yuan/mt.
Supply has recently recovered with some growth, and the firm pricing stance of mines and beneficiation plants has softened. On the demand side, steel mills mostly pushed for lower procurement prices under loss pressure. Overall, domestic concentrate prices showed a downward trend this week. Looking ahead to next week, some mines and beneficiation plants are still expected to resume production, which may temporarily ease the tight concentrate supply; on the demand side, hot metal production at steel mill blast furnaces is likely to decline further. In summary, domestic iron ore concentrate prices remain under slight downward pressure. [SMM Steel]

On August 7 China's steel export prices were mostly steady with flat products extending gains. Some flat-product export prices rose 1 USD/tonne day on day, with HRC transactions at 482-485 USD/tonne; Chinese futures rose for successive sessions in the second half of the week and export FOB prices followed, but traders reported limited actual business after the increase, while at the mill end some traders were buying against earlier orders. Billet export FOB prices were steady, with Jiangyin port offers at 450-455 USD/tonne; offers are largely referenced to the rebar futures basis, overseas enquiries are limited and competition is fierce, with only some exporters covering earlier short billet positions. Rebar export offers at Tianjin port were steady with transactions at 474-480 USD/tonne, as overseas enquiries were unremarkable, wait-and-see sentiment prevailed and domestic traders found exporting difficult.

[Vietnam] Vietnam’s domestic steel market remained broadly stable after major mills raised prices last week. Prices for rebar held at around USD 533.6/tonne, while HRC for August delivery was quoted at USD 556–557/tonne. Rainy-season demand weakness and lower input costs limited further gains, while international prices eased from USD 540/tonne to USD 536/tonne. Meanwhile, the EU proposed a 16% anti-dumping duty on Vietnamese CRC, which could raise export costs and weaken its competitiveness in the EU market.
