[Pr-Nd Oxide Continues to Decline, Dragging Metals Down, Magnetic Material Scrap Waits and Sees, Medium-Heavy Rare Earths Stable] Yesterday, some traders continued to sell at low prices, but metal plants' purchase willingness remained poor. Pr-Nd oxide prices further dropped, market confidence was unstable, and downstream inquiries and trading continued to be sluggish. For medium-heavy rare earths, downstream purchasing enthusiasm for dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide markets remained relatively low, plant quotations remained firm, and prices fluctuated relatively little for the time being.

SMM, August 5:

Rare Earth Ore:

  • Price: Medium-yttrium, europium-rich ore price was approximately 249,500 yuan/mt, monazite price was approximately 44,000 yuan/mt, and rare earth carbonate price was approximately 60,400 yuan/mt.

  • Supply and Demand: Currently, the overall circulation frequency of rare earth ore remains poor, the market trading situation is stagnant, and weak oxide prices have caused the actual transaction prices of rare earth ore to also see its center shift downward.

Rare Earth Oxides:

  • Price: In Pr-Nd oxide, both quotations and inquiries were very sluggish, with some traders pushing goods at low prices; dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide prices showed relatively insignificant fluctuations.

  • Supply and Demand: Yesterday, some traders continued to sell at low prices, but metal plants' purchase willingness remained poor, causing Pr-Nd oxide prices to further decline. Market confidence was unstable, and downstream inquiries and transactions remained sluggish. In the medium-heavy rare earth sector, downstream purchasing activity for dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide remained low, with factories' quotations still firm, and prices showed relatively small fluctuations.

Rare Earth Metals:

  • Price: Pr-Nd alloy prices continued to weaken, with a sluggish trading atmosphere, while dysprosium-iron alloy and terbium metal prices held steady.

  • Supply and Demand: Yesterday, affected by the continued pullback in Pr-Nd oxide prices and low inquiry prices in the metal market, some metal suppliers continued to lower their quotations. Market inquiry activity did not improve significantly, and actual trading atmosphere was sluggish. In the medium-heavy rare earth market, due to sparse inquiry activity, terbium metal and dysprosium-iron alloy prices saw no notable fluctuations, operating stably overall.

NdFeB Blank:

  • Price: NdFeB blank N35 (Ce) was reported at 209-219 yuan/kg, NdFeB blank 25M at 254-264 yuan/kg, and NdFeB 35UH at 354-374 yuan/kg.

  • Supply and Demand: Yesterday, NdFeB blank quotations remained temporarily stable, primarily because raw material prices held steady, which supported NdFeB quotations. On the transaction side, from late July to early August, mainstream motor factories entered the summer maintenance period, causing operating rates to drop significantly, which in turn reduced demand for NdFeB. Overall market transactions were average.

NdFeB Scrap:

  • Price: Pr-Nd recycled from NdFeB scrap prices declined, while dysprosium recycled from NdFeB scrap and terbium recycled from NdFeB scrap prices held steady.

  • Supply and Demand: Yesterday, scrap market prices edged lower, mainly influenced by persistently weak oxide prices. Recycling enterprises correspondingly lowered their external purchase quotations, but scrap suppliers' willingness to sell at low prices was not high, resulting in a strong wait-and-see sentiment in the overall market, with actual transactions performing average.

Malaysia Considers Lifting Ban on Unprocessed Rare Earth Exports Amid Intensifying Global Competition
According to foreign media reports, Malaysia is considering allowing the export of some unprocessed rare earths to strengthen its position in supply chains across industries ranging from auto manufacturing to national defense and consumer goods. Malaysia suspended the export of unprocessed rare earths in 2024 to stimulate investment in the domestic processing industry—a common tactic among resource-rich developing countries. However, as competition surrounding these minerals intensifies, authorities are now assessing the feasibility of easing the restrictions, according to a senior government official.

Trump to Attend Mining Roundtable, Promote Critical Minerals Supply Chain Development
[SMM Rare Earth Flash] According to foreign media reports, US President Trump is expected to attend a mining roundtable hosted by the US Department of State on Friday, discussing the development of critical minerals supply chains with executives from multiple mining enterprises, and further promoting the expansion of critical minerals supply by the US and its allies to reduce dependence on China. Sources say the Trump administration has made critical minerals a strategic priority. In addition to supporting mine development and processing capacity building, it will also strengthen the cultivation of mining talent. The US Department of Energy (DOE) is expected to host a mining workforce development event during the same period, inviting 14 mining colleges across the US to participate, enhancing the reserve of mining professionals, and providing technical and human support for future critical minerals projects.
