India said its free trade agreement (FTA) with the European Union includes a dedicated CBAM roadmap to help businesses comply with the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. According to the Commerce Ministry, the agreement provides a framework for future discussions on CBAM flexibility and the recognition of carbon pricing paid in India, helping reduce compliance costs for exporters. The government also plans nationwide outreach programmes to assist SMEs with carbon accounting and verification requirements. The India-EU FTA is expected to be signed in 2026 and could enter into force in 2027.
