[Solar: Brookfield launches Lumara Energy with USD 600mn investment plan in India]

Published: Aug 03, 2026 09:20 (GMT+8)
Global alternative investment manager Brookfield has launched Lumara Energy, a renewable energy platform in India that plans to invest about USD 600 million to accelerate solar, wind and battery storage project development. The platform will start with an initial portfolio of more than 6GW and is designed to address key bottlenecks in India’s renewable market, including PPA signing delays, long grid connection queues and land acquisition timelines. Brookfield said Lumara will advance projects with secured land and grid interconnection before PPAs are finalized, while also providing credit solutions to developers.

Coherent reported fiscal Q4 2026 Datacenter & Communications revenue of $1.615 billion, up 18.6% QoQ and 58.6% YoY, accounting for approximately 79% of total revenue. The company cited accelerating customer demand as AI datacenter architectures transition from copper to optical connectivity and said it is prioritizing manufacturing capacity expansion. Coherent’s technical materials identify indium phosphide as an important platform for native laser integration and high-bandwidth 400G-per-lane optical systems. SMM views the expansion of AI optical connectivity as supportive of medium-term InP and high-purity indium demand. However, Coherent did not disclose InP product shipments, preventing a quantitative estimate of the corresponding increase in indium consumption.

Canada Lifts Solar Trade Duties: Can Chinese Modules Win a Bigger Share? [SMM Analysis]
Canada has removed a significant trade restriction on direct shipments of certain solar products from China. On 17 September, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal terminated an expiry review covering certain photovoltaic modules and laminates from China and rescinded its existing order. The Canada Border Services Agency will therefore no longer impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on the goods concerned.
