Domestic lithium manganate market edged down slightly before stabilizing this week. Its price movement is highly correlated with lithium carbonate, lacking independent driving factors. Major producers maintain steady operation and prioritize deliveries to long-term clients. Ample supplies remain in the market without large-scale production cuts. Market segmentation is obvious: power-type lithium manganate for electric two-wheelers sees stable orders, while consumption-grade material for 3C electronics faces slack demand with muted spot trading.

Demand varies sharply across segments. The electric two-wheeler market stays stable. Battery manufacturers operate at moderate utilization rates and secure raw materials via long-term contracts, underpinning lithium manganate demand. Nevertheless, fierce price competition among vehicle makers squeezes battery firms’ profits, restricting aggressive inventory replenishment. Stable export orders to Southeast Asia and Latin America offer mild support yet fail to reverse the weak overall sentiment.

The 3C consumer electronics sector enters its traditional off-season, weighing heavily on consumption-grade lithium manganate. IDC data reveals domestic shipments of smartphones and tablets fell quarter-on-quarter in Q2. Brand distributors are still clearing channel inventories, delaying new product launches. Consumer cell makers strictly control finished goods stocks and adopt a hand-to-mouth purchasing strategy with strong wait-and-see sentiment. Weak demand for batteries used in earphones and portable energy storage cannot offset falling consumption from smartphones and tablets. The market anticipates potential demand improvement around mid-to-late August when brands launch new autumn products and cell manufacturers ramp up production.

In the short run, lithium carbonate dominates lithium manganate pricing. Significant upward momentum is unlikely without tangible recovery in 3C demand. Over the longer term, market trends will hinge on consumer electronics stocking schedules, peak-season orders for electric two-wheelers and lithium carbonate price swings. If Q3 stocking falls short of expectations and battery producers continue de-stocking, lithium manganate may stay in a weak consolidation phase. Investors should closely monitor brand procurement plans and monthly cell production data.

Qingyang Accelerates "World Magnesium Capital" Development, Output Surges 61.3% in H1
[SMM Magnesium Express]According to a report by China News Service, Qingyang County in Anhui Province is leveraging its dolomite resources to accelerate the development of a "World Magnesium Capital". In the first half of the year, the output value of the entire magnesium-aluminum light alloy industry chain reached 2.59 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 61.3%. The annual output value is expected to exceed 5 billion yuan. Anhui Baomai's 100,000-ton production line has been put into full-process mass production, with a total planned production capacity of 300,000 tons, accounting for about one-quarter of the country's total. The only magnesium water direct supply short-process industrial park in China has been completed and put into use. With the continuous acceleration of industrial agglomeration and technological transformation, Qingyang is expected to become an important production base for magnesium-based new materials in the country.

Hubei Team Solves Key Challenges in Magnesium Alloy for EV Display Backplanes, Prepares for Mass Production
[SMM Magnesium Express]Recently, the team led by He Chao, a lecturer at Hubei Automotive Industry Institute, and Hubei Magnesium Times New Material Company have successfully tackled the core challenges in the joint research and development of magnesium alloy materials for new energy vehicle display backplanes, and have entered the mold acceptance and mass production preparation stages. Through alloy element screening and formula optimization, the team has significantly improved the thermal conductivity and die-casting performance of the materials, with plans to produce at least 100,000 pieces by the end of the year. At the same time, the team has also successfully developed high-plasticity magnesium alloy materials, overcoming the traditional problems of high brittleness and cracking during bending, providing technical support for the expansion of magnesium alloy applications in the automotive parts field.
