Drilling at Langis Silver Mine in Canada Encounters Exceptionally Rich Orebody

A new high-grade silver target has been discovered at the Langis brownfield project in Ontario, Canada, by Brixton Metals, Mining.com reported. Assay results from this previously untapped area show a mineralized body with a thickness of 20 metres and a silver grade of up to 5,015 g/t.

Langis is located approximately 500 km north of Toronto. Drill hole LM-26-377 intersected mineralization at a depth of 165 metres. This included a 14-metre intersection at 169 metres with a silver grade of 7,150 g/t. The true thickness is not yet known.

"Based on publicly available data we have gathered to date, the LM-26-377 intersection may be one of the highest-grade silver drill holes in the world," CEO Gary Thompson stated in a Tuesday news release. "We plan to drill more holes at Langis."

This new discovery is expected to expand Brixton's resource base. Follow-up drilling will test whether hole LM-26-377 connects with another high-grade intersection located 140 metres to the west, potentially forming a continuous ore zone.

Follow-Up Drilling

Brixton has traced the zone for at least 100 metres along strike to the southeast of the Shaft 6 area, where no stopes or underground workings were found. The ore zone remains open along strike and at depth.

Two other recent holes also returned very high grades. Hole LM-26-353 intersected 13 metres grading 287.8 g/t silver from a depth of 144 metres, including a 2.15-metre section at 1,634 g/t silver from 153 metres.

Hole LM-26-352 intersected 7 metres grading 275 g/t silver from a depth of 148 metres, including a 0.5-metre section at 2,620 g/t silver from 151.25 metres.

Brixton is drilling between the southeast Shaft 6 area and the adjacent southern Shaft 6 area, while also testing extensions and the structure controlling the high-grade mineralization. So far this year, the company has completed 105 holes for a total of 24,017 metres at Langis, and a 60,000-metre program is planned.

These two areas host vein-style silver mineralization, with the surrounding wall rock also mineralized. The mineralization can range from narrow veins of native silver to disseminated material in the wall rock, a factor that contributed to the historically high silver output in the Cobalt mining camp.

Mine History

The Langis silver mine was first exploited in 1908 and operated until 1989, producing a total of 10.4 million oz of silver at a head grade of 20-25 oz per ton. Previous producers excavated 10 km of underground workings, achieving recovery rates of 88%-98%.

The Cobalt camp produced over 445 million oz of silver. More than 100 years ago, the silver rush caused the population of this remote Ontario town to surge to 12,000 and led to the founding of The Northern Miner.

Langis does not yet have a resource estimate. Brixton has set an exploration target of 1-2 million tonnes of ore grading 400-800 g/t silver, but significant further exploration is required before a resource can be defined.

Additionally, Brixton is conducting assays on tailings material. The company has completed 261 metres of drilling and sent samples for assay and metallurgical testing with the goal of establishing a maiden tailings resource.
