[SMM Stainless Steel Market Flash] Wuhu Shipyard Cuts Steel on Fifth 38,000 DWT Duplex Chemical Tanker for Stolt

China's Wuhu Shipyard held a steel-cutting ceremony on July 21 for the fifth 38,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker in its series for Stolt Tankers, operator of the world's largest chemical tanker fleet. The order, signed in November 2023, covers 6+6 stainless chemical and product tankers, with the first batch due for delivery between 2026 and 2028; construction of the lead vessel began in July 2025. Each ship carries 30 cargo tanks built in duplex stainless 2205, is designed by Sweden's FKAB, classed by Lloyd's Register and Liberian-flagged, measuring 184.9 m by 32.2 m with a 16 m moulded depth. [SMM Stainless Steel Flash] India's CCI Dismisses Complaint Over Jindal Stainless's Indonesian Slab and HRC Sourcing

India's Competition Commission dismissed a complaint against Jindal Stainless in an order dated July 21, 2026, alleging the producer had locked in exclusive arrangements with Indonesian suppliers for nickel-bearing stainless slab and hot-rolled coil, shutting rival Indian firms out of a key input. The complainant, an unnamed downstream stainless manufacturer, also challenged the Jindal Saathi dealership scheme. The CCI found no evidence that rivals suffered output cuts, market exit or other competitive harm, and said Jindal is not dominant upstream given multiple domestic and BIS-certified overseas suppliers. It accepted the company is dominant in downstream cold-rolled stainless but found no abuse. India has no domestic nickel reserves, a dependence deepened by Indonesia's 2020 ore export ban.
