SMM August 21 news:

According to the latest customs data, for galvanized sheet, exports in July 2026 were 1.1 million mt, up 2.63% MoM, down 8.14% YoY, and cumulative exports from January to July were 7.8066 million mt, down 3.87% YoY cumulative.

By country, the Philippines imported 177,000 mt of Chinese galvanized sheet in July, ranking first; Thailand imported 104,000 mt, accounting for 9.43%, ranking second; Vietnam imported 80,000 mt, accounting for 7.27%, ranking third.

China's galvanized sheet exports in July edged up from June, largely in line with prior expectations. Although South Korea began imposing provisional anti-dumping duties on galvanized cold-rolled steel originating from China in mid-June, which restrained China's galvanized sheet exports to South Korea to some extent, China's export orders to South Korea continued to decrease MoM in July. However, at the same time, as the phase of large-scale military conflict between the US and Iran ended, orders for galvanized sheet from China to the Middle East recovered in June-July, providing some growth to overall exports.

Entering August, China's galvanized sheet exports are expected to have limited growth from July. On the one hand, there are signs of order recovery in the Middle East, but uncertainty in the Strait of Hormuz remains high, and overall orders have not fully recovered, expected to contribute relatively limited growth; on the other hand, anti-dumping duties from South Korea, Brazil, Japan and other regions continue to affect some export orders. Considering the overall increase and decrease, China's galvanized sheet exports in August are expected to have limited room for growth.
