[SMM Lithium Battery Electrolyte Market Weekly Review: Electrolyte Prices Stabilized This Week (July 20-23, 2026)] From July 20 to 23, 2026, electrolyte prices stabilized. The future trajectory of electrolyte market prices still requires ongoing monitoring of raw material price fluctuations and their transmission.

SMM, July 23:

Electrolyte prices remained stable this week, with average prices for ternary, LFP, and LMO electrolytes at 29,750 yuan/mt, 28,250 yuan/mt, and 22,150 yuan/mt, respectively. Cost side, spot lithium carbonate prices continued their downward trend this week, but lithium fluoride producers showed a strong willingness to hold prices firm and maintained conservative selling, resulting in relatively limited declines in quotes. For enterprises that produce LiPF6 by purchasing externally purchased lithium fluoride, downside room for raw material costs was relatively small. Meanwhile, influenced by market news and expectations of subsequent demand support, electrolyte enterprises increased their purchase willingness recently. Coupled with already low inventory levels at LiPF6 producers, market prices edged up. The additive sector remained strong, with downstream demand continuing to expand. However, production unit maintenance and temporary shutdowns at some VC producers led to a phased contraction in effective industry supply, further intensifying the supply-demand tightness and pushing spot VC prices higher again. That said, there is a time lag in the transmission of raw material cost pressure to the electrolyte end-use sector, keeping electrolyte prices stable recently. Supply and demand side, although the industry was in the traditional off-season for sales, power battery enterprises balanced end-use demand with the Q3 peak season stockpiling pace, keeping overall production schedules on the rise. Demand for energy storage stayed high, with energy storage battery cell production growing steadily and forming a stable, rigid demand support. Electrolyte enterprises generally adopted a produce-based-on-sales model, with industry production rising in tandem. Overall, electrolyte price trends are closely linked to raw material costs. At the current stage, cost pressure from rising prices of core raw materials like VC is expected to be gradually transmitted downstream, supporting expectations for subsequent electrolyte price raises.

SMM Daily Comment: Spot Lithium Carbonate Prices Surged 5% on August 24
Today, the SMM battery-grade lithium carbonate spot price surged 5% from the previous trading day. In futures, the most-traded contract LC2701 opened higher at 161,500 yuan/mt, hit a high of 162,500 yuan/mt during the session, and closed the morning session with a gain of nearly 3%. The sharp price surge was mainly due to the slower-than-expected progress of production resumptions at Jiangxi mines, which continuously heightened market concerns over tightening lithium ore supply, pushing prices to climb rapidly. Demand side, as month-end approaches, downstream material plants are actively stockpiling for next month's production, and spot order purchase willingness has notably strengthened; on the spot market, some lithium chemical plants undergoing maintenance continue to prioritize long-term contract supply, while those not in maintenance have seen a significant increase in their willingness to sell spot orders as prices broke through recent highs, with market inquiries and actual transactions becoming more active.

South Korea to Add Auto and Battery Manufacturing to Integrated Environmental Management System
South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced that it will pre-announce revisions to the enforcement decree and rules of the Act on the Integrated Management of Environmental Pollution Facilities from August 26 to October 6. The revision focuses on adding industries that require integrated environmental management, taking into account changes in the industrial structure and fairness among sectors. Seven industries will be newly added: automobile manufacturing, secondary battery manufacturing, non-alcoholic beverage manufacturing, animal and vegetable oils and dairy product manufacturing, other food manufacturing, flat glass manufacturing, and rubber product manufacturing. The new rules will apply to automobile, secondary battery, flat glass and rubber product manufacturing from January 2029.
