[Solar: Japan allocates 89.2MW in 28th utility-scale PV auction]

Published: Jul 16, 2026 21:27
Japan’s Green Investment Promotion Organization has released the final results of its 28th utility-scale solar auction, selecting 29 projects with a combined capacity of 89.2MW, slightly below the planned 91MW. The selected projects range from 350kW to 29.5MW. The lowest bid was JPY 0/kWh, submitted for eight projects between 400kW and 2MW, likely reflecting projects that had secured private PPAs and participated in the auction mainly to obtain grid connection. The highest bid was JPY 7.89/kWh, while the average final price came in at JPY 6.74/kWh, below the JPY 9.60/kWh ceiling.

[Solar: Philippines inaugurates Phase I of MTerra solar-plus-storage project]
Meralco PowerGen Corporation and its partners have inaugurated Phase I of the MTerra Solar project in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, comprising 1.373GW of solar PV and 825MW/3,300MWh of battery storage. Once fully developed, the project will reach 3.5GW of solar PV and 4,500MWh of BESS capacity, making it one of the world’s largest single-site integrated solar-plus-storage projects, according to MGEN. The facility can currently export up to 750MW to the Luzon grid, while all 741 battery units on site have been energized. After grid testing, it is expected to begin supplying power under a 600MW mid-merit PSA with Meralco.
