【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Adani and IHC to Invest $11.5B in Odisha Aluminum Plant

Published: Jul 13, 2026 09:39
The Economic Times of India reported on July 2nd that Adani Group and Abu Dhabi International Holdings (IHC) plan to jointly invest $11.5 billion over the next few years, through a combination of debt and equity, to build a new aluminum smelter in Odisha with an annual capacity of over 2 million tons. This project is expected to increase India's total aluminum production capacity by nearly 50%. The Odisha plant will be an integrated production base encompassing smelting and refining processes. Adani will independently mine bauxite, produce alumina, and further process it into metallic aluminum. India has abundant mineral resources, but the development of its domestic metal industry has been hampered for many years due to factors including: protests that have stalled mining operations and new factory construction; cautious government approvals at all levels, coupled with court rulings, which have resulted in delays or even cancellations of multi-billion dollar projects.
