[SMM Steel] India Alang Ship-Breaking Scrap Rises on Interstate Demand

Published: Jul 8, 2026 15:20
[India] Ship-breaking melting scrap in Alang, Gujarat, rose to USD 350/tonne EXW, supported by heavy rainfall and buying interest from Rajasthan and Punjab for lower-priced material. However, weak downstream steel demand kept mills cautious, with procurement largely need-based. In northern India’s Mandi Gobindgarh, HMS 80:20 scrap fell to around USD 357/tonne DAP, indicating broader regional scrap sentiment remained under pressure.
