[SMM Aluminum Flash News] India Debates Aluminium Scrap Import Duty as Recyclers Call for Tariff Removal

India's aluminium industry is debating aluminium scrap import duties and quality regulations. While the Aluminium Association of India (AAI) supports stricter quality controls, the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) and Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA) are calling for the removal of the current 2.5% import duty to reduce raw material costs. Industry participants also noted that tightening scrap retention policies in Europe, the Middle East and the US could further influence India's future scrap import policy.

On September 2, Foshan aluminum billet Φ90 was quoted at RMB 24,360/t, with processing fee at RMB 60/t (down RMB 30 from the previous trading day); Φ120 at RMB 24,310/t, with processing fee at RMB 10/t (down RMB 30); Φ178 at RMB 24,310/t, with processing fee at RMB 10/t (down RMB 30). SMM A00 aluminum spot (Foshan) stood at RMB 24,300/t. On September 2, Wuxi aluminum billet Φ90 was quoted at RMB 24,410/t, with processing fee at RMB 330/t (up RMB 10 from the previous trading day); Φ120 at RMB 24,320/t, with processing fee at RMB 240/t (up RMB 10); Φ178 at RMB 24,310/t, with processing fee at RMB 230/t (up RMB 10). SMM A00 aluminum spot stood at RMB 24,080/t. On September 2, Nanchang aluminum billet Φ90 was quoted at RMB 24,250/t, with processing fee at RMB 170/t (flat from the previous trading day); Φ120 at RMB 24,200/t, with processing fee at RMB 120/t (flat); Φ178 at RMB 24,200/t, with processing fee at RMB 120/t (flat). SMM A00 aluminum spot stood at RMB 24,080/t.
