Hydro to Supply 85,000 Tonnes of Low-Carbon Aluminium to Nexans for European Grid Expansion

Published: Jul 7, 2026 10:20
[SMM Aluminum Express News] Hydro has signed a five-year agreement to supply approximately 85,000 tonnes of low-carbon aluminum wire rod to Nexans between 2026 and 2030, supporting Europe's electricity grid expansion. The aluminum, produced using 100% renewable energy in Norway, will be used in medium-voltage power grids, overhead transmission lines, and subsea power cables. The agreement also supports Hydro's expanded wire rod capacity at its Karmøy smelter and strengthens long-term supply security for Europe's energy transition.

[SMM Aluminum Flash News] India's Aluminum Association Urges Higher Tariffs and Stricter Scrap Import Standards
The Aluminum Association of India (AAI) has urged the government to raise import duties, introduce aluminum scrap quality standards and implement grade-based HSN codes to curb low-quality scrap imports. AAI said India's aluminum imports reached a record 3.479 million tonnes in FY26, with aluminum scrap imports costing over INR 402 billion, posing risks to domestic investment, recycling development and the country's aluminum industry.
